The Town

When Jim Bridger established his fur-trading outpost here in 1842, it quickly became a territorial hub. The fort was established in fertile meadow lands on the Blacks Fork of the Green River.

The town continues to be rich in history, diversity, and community. It is home for one of Wyoming’s handful of historical sites, and a great place to immerse yourself in a bygone era.

In addition, Fort Bridger is the site for the annual Mountain Man Rendezvous which draws thousands of people to enjoy mountain air, small-town life, and the historic offerings of the area.

Step Back in Time

Fort Bridger was a major stopping point for trappers, traders, Native Americans, emigrants, and military. It has seen the passage of religious outcasts, buffalo hunters, gold seekers, and homesteaders. Through Fort Bridger passed the Oregon, California, Mormon, and Overland trails. It was also on the Pony Express route. After the advent of the automobile, it was a stopping point on the Lincoln Highway, the first transcontinental highway. Few towns have been such a rich part of the westward expansion of America.
